That’s why it’s a good idea to do some maintenance every once in awhile to help keep your devices running as fast and good, as they are made to run. We’ve compiled a short list of things every user can do to speed up their device. We hope you find it useful!!
Steps to Make Your Device Run Better:
- Clear your Cache/Browser History/Download History/Cookies on your browser. This is one of the biggest things that will slow you down when your online. Even your cell phone has an option to delete those things. Normally you can find this under “Browser Options”, “Browser Settings”, or “Internet Options”. One of the cell phones I had in the past started freezing up and I thought it was the phone or an app causing it to act up; turns out it was my cookies/cache causing the issues. I try to clear my cache, cookies, and history about once a week. This keeps me up to speed and ensures I don’t lag.
- Run Disk Cleanup and Defrag Your Computer. If you have a desktop or laptop, this is another key item to keeping your computer healthy (so to speak). When you delete things, sometimes there’s bits and pieces of programs (or whatever it may be) left on your device. How do you get rid of them? By running these programs. They are built into your computer and you should be able to access them by going to “System & Security” in your Control Panel. With the click of the button (and a little time) you can improve your computers performance by more than most expect. I have mine scheduled to do these things once a week as well, late at night (so I’m not on the computer and it can do it’s thing). Not everyone will need to do this once a week. You may choose to do it once a month or once every 3 months or so. I do mine more frequently because I spend a LOT of time online and am constantly downloading pictures and things, since we run a website.
- Run and Update your Anti-Virus Software. This is VERY important! Not only do you need to have some sort of Anti-Virus Software for your computer (to ensure you don’t have to buy another one sooner than necessary), you also need to make sure it’s updated frequently. Some programs will auto-update, others may not. New viruses come out every day, therefore, it’s important to make sure your Anti-Virus is updated frequently so it can protect you against the most recent viruses. You should also run a FULL Scan on your computer every so often. This is another thing I do once a week (scheduled) since I’m online & downloading so often. Some people may choose to do this once a month. Viruses can sneak up on you through multiple sources and cause major problems on your computer; from lagging/freezing up to stealing your personal info. If you’ve ever had a virus on your computer, you know how painful of a process it can be to remove and get your computer back to normal. I personally use Microsoft Security Essentials on my computer (since getting a horrible virus over a year ago and having the tech guy recommend it). I’ve not had any issues since switching and will continue to use MSE, as it does an efficient job of protecting my computer (plus it’s free, which is a must LOL).
